Hello and welcome to the Green Chook website. We live in the Southern Tablelands of NSW near Yass and have been breeding Light Sussex for the past few years.
I like to see happy chooks that are able to enjoy a natural lifestyle. Ours are able to free range on the farm during the day and are locked up securely at night.
Light Sussex are a medium to large size dual purpose bird. They lay creamy brown coloured eggs which get larger as the hen gets older. Their lovely quiet nature and stunning looks makes them popular backyard chooks.
Check the poultry for sale page for details of what is available.
History of the Light Sussex breed.
The Sussex was originally a heavy breed which originated in the county of Sussex in England. The Sussex breed goes back to the 16th Century and its roots go back to the Roman times in England. The original colours were brown, red and speckled however they now come in eight colours. The Light Sussex is a spectacular bird with white feathers on the body and black highlights around the neck and tail.
